Kenneth "Tyke" R. Edwards

Kenneth R. “Tyke” Edwards, Jr, 66, of Montgomery, died Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Muncy Valley Hospital.

Born June 28, 1953 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Bernice (Miller) Edwards and Kenneth Ray Edwards Sr., and his wife, Shirley, who both survive.  On January 4, 1975 he married the former Deborah Bennett, who survives, and together they celebrated 45 years of marriage.

Tyke worked for 25 years at the former Strick Corporation, Hughesville and recently retired after 15 years at Kidron, Montgomery.

He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and boating.  Tyke was also an avid bowler and former member of the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a large supporter of the 9/11 Memorial Motorcycle ride, participating every year since its inception.  Most importantly, Tyke loved his family and cherished time with them.

Surviving in addition to his wife and father are two daughters, Jennifer Yonkin and her husband, Robert, of Montandon, and Carrie Sloan, of Montgomery; three brothers, Bill Strickland, of TX, Scott Edwards and his wife, Victoria, of VA, and Kevin Strickland and his wife, Brenda, of Muncy; three sisters, Corinna Johnson and her husband, Tyrone, of Williamsport, Kenna Andrews, of VA, and Gail Edwards, of Williamsport; five grandchildren, Montanna Stover, Dakota Rood, Maurisa Sloan, Harley Sloan and Rhiannon Yonkin; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Stover and Emery Rood.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by one brother, Gary Strickland; and his “mom”, who he considered his own, Carol Edwards.

The family is planning a memorial service to be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at New Covenant Assembly, 1270 Pinchtown Rd., Montgomery, with Pastor James Pentz, officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Tyke’s memory be made to the 9/11 Memorial Ride, online at www.911memorialcoalition.org/donations.
