Kurt Schawaller, 84, of Muncy, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Born October 30, 1932 in Dusseldorf, Germany, he was the son of the late August and Maria Schawaller. On May 18, 1996, he married the former Ingeborg Pabst Bird, who survives. Together, they celebrated 20 years of marriage.
Kurt attended Manhattan College and Bucknell University. Earlier in life he worked at Muncy Bank & Trust. He later retired from John Powell Chevrolet after 25 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.
Kurt was a member of the Muncy Masonic Lodge #299, F & A.
He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, traveling and watching German soccer. Kurt also had a lifelong passion for singing.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kurt A. and Jacklyn Schawaller, of Muncy and Frank C. Schawaller, of Lawrence, KS; one daughter and son-in-law, Ingrid M. and Mark Jakabcsin, of Ft. Mill, SC; two step sons, Joseph and William Bird; and three step daughters, Marie Bane, Carol Sayre and Karen Snyder.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Jeannette (LaForme) Schawaller on December 6, 1993 and a sister, Herta Knittel.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a prayer vigil for family will be held at 5:30 p.m. and a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, with his pastor, the Rev. Glenn McCreary.
Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
