L. Paul Earnest

L. Paul Earnest, 84, of 50 N. Third St., Lewisburg, took his final trip to be with Grammy, on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born July 16, 1929 in Catawissa, a son of the late Kimber and Jennie (Hess) Earnest. He was married to the former Betty J. Lovejoy for many years before her death December 15, 2003.

Paul attended Lewisburg High School. He worked at Pennsylvania House Furniture for 45 years in the shipping department, retiring in 1992. Paul worked part time as a bartender at the Northumberland Moose, New Berlin Legion, the former Turbot Hills Golf Course, now Wynding Brook and at the former Blue Note.

He was of Lutheran faith.

A veteran of the U. S. Army, Paul was a member of the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post 182, Lewisburg, where he was past commander and served on the Board of Directors for seven years. He also served on the Board of Directors at the New Berlin American Legion AM Post 957.

Paul umpired little league baseball and softball and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, New York Yankees and pro wrestling. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, loved family picnics at Halfway Dam and enjoyed participating in the Veterans Parade, Memorial Day Parade and the Fourth of July Parade in Lewisburg.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, James L and Roberta Earnest, of Milton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda A. and Jack Stover, of Lewisburg, Tresha L. and Jack Brobst, of Mifflinburg and Michelle L. Husam, of Lewisburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Belma and Paul Bieber, of Florida; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Clyde, William, Harold and Russell Earnest; two sisters, Irene Shrawder and Cleona Deberry; and a grandson, Cory Earnest.

The family is planning a service with military honors to be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post 182, Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, with light refreshments to follow.
