Larry A. Miller

November 28, 1936 — October 13, 2020

Larry A. Miller, 83, of New Columbia, died peacefully Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his daughter’s house where he had been living with her by his side.

He was born November 28, 1936 in New Berlin, a son of the late Archie and Florence (Mitchell) Miller.  On June 24, 1956 he married the former Wilma M. Stahley, who preceded him in death June 17, 2017. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Larry was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School. He retired from the former Pennsylvania House, Lewisburg after 42 ½ years. Larry loved traveling to set up furniture shows in North Carolina for the company.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where he taught Sunday school.

Larry and Wilma traveled to Gatlinburg, TN many times.

He raised rabbits for years and named them all after his children and grandchildren.

Larry loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events when they were younger.

One of his favorite things was attending the local fairs, especially The Bloomsburg Fair. He also enjoyed taking his sons and grandson to Patty Mountain to hunt deer.

Larry was a very social person and gave everyone he met a mint. He was known for his many famous lines, such as, “You look terrible today, keep your zipper up”,” I don’t mind dying, I just don’t want to be there when it happens”, “If you get down by the river drop in” and his most famous was from his Dad who passed at 103, “Don’t get old”.

Surviving are four children, Larry A. Miller and his wife, Karen, of Bloomsburg, Debra M. Gutelius and her husband, Joseph, of Northumberland, Teresa Saylor and her husband, Nicholas, of Myrtle Beach, SC and Scott W. Miller and his wife, Pamela, of Northumberland; 10 grandchildren, Derek, Joshua, Kendall, Danielle, Courtney,  Matthew, Braiden, Sierra, Chelsea and Jake; and eight great-grandchildren, Trey, Kash, Emilia, Eloise, Samuel, Felicity, Adriana and Dawson.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Elvin Miller and a sister, Edith Solomon.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s UCC, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg. For everyone’s safety we ask that all attendees adhere to the social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. There will be no luncheon following the service.
