Loretta May (Houseknecht) Winter, 83, of Mill Hall, died Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Lock Haven Hospital.
Born May 1, 1938 in Moreland Twp., Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Harold S. and Dora E. (Voneida) Houseknecht. She married David E. Winter and together they celebrated 49 years of marriage before his death February 5, 2006. On July 17, 2010 she married Truman Johnson Jr., who preceded her in death Dec. 21, 2021. Together they celebrated 11 years of marriage.
Loretta was a 1956 graduate of Muncy High School. She worked at the former Lundy Lumber as a desk clerk and later as a dental assistant at Drs. Bennardi and Barberio, for 30 years.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown, where she participated with the church youth group. Loretta was also a member of Good Sam Camping Club, Tri-County Campers and 4H. She was a snowbird at Avion Palms, Bowling Green, FL for 23 years.
Loretta enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and playing cards, but most importantly, camping and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Diane W. Ruhl and her husband, Brian, of Mill Hall; a son, James E. Winter and his wife, Connie, of Watsontown; three step children, Alicia Brittain, of Downingtown, Wayne Johnson, of Houston, TX and Mark Johnson, of Bonita Springs, FL; a sister, Kay E. Showers, of Allenwood; five grandchildren, Clarissa Winter, of Watsontown, Corey Winter, of Oliver Spring, TN, Kyle Ruhl, of Clinton, NJ, Nicole Lara, of Largo, FL and Justin Ruhl, of Littlestown; four great-grandchildren, Eli, Everleigh, Gregor and Tristan; 17 step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by an infant sister, Karen Houseknecht.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 8, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2041 St. Rt. 442 Clarkstown, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Beverly Cotner, officiating.
Please note that everyone in attendance will be required to wear a mask.
Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.
