Lucille D. Baker

Lucille D. Baker, 93, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.

She was born August 22, 1922 in Union County, a daughter of the late George Sr. and Hattie Mae (Yost) Diefenbach.  On August 23, 1942, she married Donald D. Baker, who preceded her in death on February 5, 1988.  Together they celebrated 45 years of marriage.

Lucille was a 1938 graduate of Lewisburg High School.  Early in life, she was a maid for the Hastings family of Milton and later worked at the former Philco-Ford, Watsontown.  She retired from Kelly Elementary School where she worked as a library aide.  Lucille was also the Kelly Twp. tax collector for many years.

She was a lifelong member of Mazeppa Union Church, Lewisburg, where she was extremely active in the church.  Lucille taught Sunday school and also helped with many church dinners over the years.

She was a member of a pinochle club for many years and after retirement belonged to the Pennsylvania Association of Retired Employees.  Lucille was an avid gardener and enjoyed baking.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Pamela Baker, of Winfield; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Dr. Thomas Degling, of Carlisle, Trina and Richard Gallup, of Millheim, and Joni and Michael Harrison, of Turbotville; one brother and sister-in-law, George Jr. and Judith Diefenbach, of Seattle, WA; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Beatrice Wenrick, and Joyce and Dean Hackenberg, all of Lewisburg; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Rea, Carla Folmer, Patton Montgomery, Shawn and Sarah Baker, and Cecilia and Jennifer Gallup; three great-grandchildren, Allison and Abigail Rea, and Jacob Folmer; one niece and three nephews.

She was predeceased by two children in infancy; one sister, June Heiss; one stepbrother, Elwood Diefenbach; and three brothers-in-law, William Wenrich, George Walter and Owen Heiss.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Mazeppa Union Church, 3200 Johnson Mill Road, Lewisburg where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with her pastor, Ricky Phillips, officiating

Burial will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest contributions in Lucille’s name be made to either the Mazeppa Union Church, 3200 Johnson Mill Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or the Riverwoods Benevolent Fund, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
