Madeline T. Bird

Madeline T. Bird, 82, of Market St., Muncy, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at her home.

Born May 11, 1935 in Abbott Township, Germania, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Sophia (Zeaman) Thomke.  On August 16, 1958 she married William H. Bird and together they celebrated 42 years of marriage until his passing on June 7, 2001.

Madeline was a 1953 graduate of Galeton High School and 1957 graduate of Lycoming College, Williamsport.  She worked as the Controller and Director of Finance for the Williamsport Area School District, retiring in 2015.

Madeline was an active member of The Church of the Resurrection, Muncy.  She served the church in many ways from being bookkeeper, active with the Social Concerns committee, assisting with funeral luncheons, past president of the Women’s Organization and part of the Parish Council.

She was also a member of the Muncy Business and Professional Women, Muncy School District Board of Directors for 12 years, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Muncy Community Action Program, where she served as treasurer, and several Parent Teacher Organizations.

Madeline was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her book club through her church.

Surviving are four children, William H. Bird Jr. and his wife, Monica Landry, of Flower Mound, TX, Dr. Lynne M. Bird and her husband, Dennis Buckovetz, of Coronado, CA, Barbara B. Engro, of Lewistown, and Susan B. Snyder and her partner, Edward Schwarz, of York; and one granddaughter, Kelli Elizabeth Snyder.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Carl Thomke Jr.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a prayer vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, with her pastor, the Rev. Glenn McCreary, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, PA 17756.
