Margaret E. Beekman

Margaret E. Beekman, 102, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.

She was born May 1, 1922 in Lake View, NY, the daughter of the late Ernest G. and Williamenia (Hoss) Scharnke.  Margaret married Stewart M. Beekman, who preceded her in death February of 1986.

Margaret was a graduate of Hempstead High School and Adelphi University, where she earned a degree in Mathematics. Earlier in life, she worked for AT&T Bell Telephone Laboratory, NJ, designing transformers. When her children were born, Margaret left the work force to spend more time at home and raise them. Once her children were in high school, Margaret went back to work for Educational Testing Services in New Jersey.

As a senior, she went through a program given by the IRS to help teach seniors how to file their taxes and became a tax aide for a number of years. Margaret also worked at a local senior center.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling and books on traveling.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Connie Beekman, of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Janet Beekman Owens, of State College; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Donald Stewart Beekman.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenfield Cemetery, Uniondale, NY.
