Margaret K. “Peg” Candrick, 91, of 223 Alder Lane, Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born August 29, 1923 in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Edwin Chester and Eva Caroline (Wehr) Kauffman. She and her husband, Thomas R. Candrick, celebrated 49 years of marriage. He preceded her in death April 5, 1995.

Peg was a 1941 graduate of Lewisburg High School and a 1945 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, where she received her Bachelors degree in Physical Education and Biology. Peg received her Masters degree in Education from Bloomsburg University in 1970. She taught at Mifflinburg High School, Lewisburg High School and Buchanan High School in Virginia. Peg was also a teacher at Lewisburg Elementary School before retiring after 34 years. Following retirement, she did tutoring and worked at the Gingerbread House.

Peg was a member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, where she served on the church council. She was also a past member of the Lewisburg Chapter #394 Order of the Eastern Star. An active volunteer, she enjoyed helping at the Slifer House Museum and the Packwood House Museum, was on the Lewisburg Garden Club House tour Committee and was the originator of the Mifflinburg May Day activities in 1952.

An avid golfer, Peg was a member of the Bucknell Golf Club, where she served two terms as President of the Bucknell Ladies Golf Association. She was proud of making a Hole-in-one in Michigan.

In her spare time, Peg enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, knitting, counter cross-stitching and traveling throughout the World.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. Jr. and Deborah (Weinberger) Candrick, of Watertown, CT; and a grandson, William L. W. Candrick.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard Kauffman, two nephews and one niece.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to Noon Saturday, December 13 at Rooke Chapel, Bucknell University, where a Memorial Service will be held at Noon with her pastor, the Rev. William S. Henderson, officiating.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Lewisburg cemetery.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St. Lewisburg.
