Martin K. Atreides

July 8, 1952 — July 3, 2023

Muncy

Martin K. Atreides, 70, most recently of Muncy and formerly of Ft. Washington, Pennsylvania, died Monday, July 3, 2023 at home with his family by his side.

He was born July 8, 1952 in Philadelphia, a son of the late John L. and Lucille E. (Keyes) Paul.  On December 31, 2003 he married Mirta Tenni, who survives.Together they celebrated 19 years of marriage.

Martin graduated from Abington High School, and attended Ursinus College for a short time.

He retired after many years working as a Parts Manager for Jaguar Land Rover, appreciated by many for his knowledge, skills and competence.

He was a former member of Bridge Community Church, Glenside, and most recently attended Grace Baptist Church, Muncy.

Martin had many unique interests and spent much of his free time exploring his hobbies.  Not only was he an avid reader, but he was also passionate about the Napoleonic era and other wartime history.  He admired and studied many of History’s great generals, and often could be heard quoting their obscure and lesser known phrases. Another great passion of Martin’s was cars, especially if they were designed between the years of 1967, and 1967. Another favored year is 1967.   One aspect of automobiles he enjoyed with ardor was Formula 1 racing.  He was known to watch and rewatch famous and infamous races of the past.   When he wasn’t watching races, he was re-watching his favorite westerns, particularly those featuring John Wayne and Ben Johnson.  Like most people, he loved music and he not only spent many happy hours listening to his favorite albums, but also searching for and acquiring rare and hard to find releases.  To say he was a fan of Bob Dylan would be an understatement, although he would not have called himself a “bobcat,” he most certainly was.  One particular genre of music he devoted time listening to, was infantry bagpipe marches, and he had a special fondness for the Gordon Ηighlander Bagpipe Regiment.

Martin was well known for his wry sense of humor.  The cerebral and pithy banter between himself and his wife amused and sometimes shocked anyone who overheard, including the wonderful team of nurses who took care of him.  He also took great care in his appearance, and was often called dapper by those he encountered. This was a mark of great personal pride, and rightly so. Like all the well dressed in history, he had a uniform, which included Chuck Taylors and a Jeff cap.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children, Imri Merritt, Sam Ricciardi, Sara Klein, Natalie Merritt and Martina Merritt; eight grandchildren, Indigo Ricciardi, Bijou Klein, Cosette Klein, Kenny Klein III, Violet Kee, Maybellene Petersen, Josephine Petersen and Johnny Petersen; one sister, Alicia Paul of Doylestown, PA and two nephews, Murray and Robert Comly of NC, their wives Crystal and Tanya and their ten children and six grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, John Paul, and one sister, Ann Couch.

Services will be held Thursday July 13, for family and close friends, at 11 am at Grace Baptist Church, 5471 Clarkstown Road, Muncy Pa, with Pastor Charles Teffeteller officiating, followed by a private interment.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
