Mary Ellen Denius

July 7, 1925 — November 22, 2016

Mary Ellen Denius, 91, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

She was born July 7, 1925, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Miriam (Burke) Haas.  On January 11, 1946, she married William H. Denius, Sr. and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before his death on January 7, 2011.

Mary was a 1943 graduate of Lewisburg High School. She retired from JPM Industries and helped her husband on the family farm while raising their family.

She was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where she was very active in the choir, teaching Sunday school and bake sales.

Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband. She volunteered her time knitting and crocheting gifts for new babies and nursing homes.

Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, William H. Jr. and Kimberly Denius, of Concord, NC, Lee W. and Margaret Denius, of Suffolk, VA and John B. Denius, of Lewisburg; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Denius; one brother; and two sisters.

Friends will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, at St. Peter’s U.C.C., 1880 Churches Rd. Lewisburg, followed by a celebration of life service at 2 p.m. with her minister, Pastor Jeff Hauck and Dr. James Cope, officiating.

Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Mazeppa Union Cemetery.

The family welcomes flowers, however if desired contributions may be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, in care of Jeff Hauck, 138 3rd St. New Columbia, PA 17856 or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg.
