Mary Ellen Murphy

Mary Ellen Murphy, 90, formerly of Allenwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Born October 18, 1931 in McElhattan, she was a daughter of the late George and Georgine (Miller) Hall.  On October 18, 1952 she married Charles Allen Murphy Sr. who passed away on June 15, 2006.  Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Mary Ellen was a 1951 graduate of Montgomery High School.  She worked for the former Montgomery Mills until they closed, then volunteered at Head Start in New Columbia.

She was a member of the Washington Presbyterian Church, Allenwood.

Mary Ellen enjoyed sewing and cooking, especially for big holiday meals.  She was also active in helping with the Special Olympics.

Surviving are three daughters, Amy Jo Snyder and her husband, Wayne, of Salisbury, NC, Robin Gresh and her husband, Kenneth, and Lisa Marie Murphy, all of Turbotville; three sons, Charles “Allen” Murphy Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Milton, Patrick Murphy and his wife, Valerie, of Montgomery, and Michael Murphy and his wife, Charlotte, of Allenwood; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and John Hall; and a sister in infancy.

Private burial will be held in Uniontown Cemetery, Allenwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests to perform an act of kindness to someone, honoring Mary Ellen’s willingness to always give to others.
