Melvin L. Raup

Melvin L. Raup, 96, of Montandon, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at his home.

He was born March 16, 1920 in Montandon, a son of the late Harvey and Edna (Beaver) Raup.  Melvin married the former Vivian M. Newman on May 29, 1947 and together they celebrated 64 years of marriage before her death on December 27, 2011.

He served honorably in the United States Army.  Following his time in the service, Melvin drove truck many years for J.R. Sheets, Montandon.  He later retired from the former American Home Foods, now ConAgra, Milton.

He was a member of Montandon Baptist Church where he used to help with many church activities.

Melvin was a lifetime member of the Montandon American Legion Post 841.  He was an avid gardener always looking forward to the spring when it was time to plant.  Melvin also enjoyed hunting and trapping.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Doug Mays, of Upper Marlboro, MD; one sister, Beatrice Swanger, of Lewisburg; one son-in-law, Edward Straub, of Sunbury; five grandchildren, Brian Mays, Angela Barbitta, William Straub, Andrew Straub and Allison Yeager; 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley Mays, Gavin Barbitta, Shyanne Mays, Aaron Taylor, Chris Yeager, Christopher Straub, Jacob Yeager, Noah Yeager, Makyza Straub, Cortni Sparrow and Noah Straub; and two great-great-grandchildren, AJ and Ally Taylor.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Nancy Straub; one brother, Woody Raup; three sisters, Ollie Bergerstock, Emma Hummel and Gladys Preisel; and one grandson, Michael Billhime.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to Noon Saturday, March 11 at the Montandon Baptist Church, 257 Main St., Montandon, followed by a Memorial Service at Noon, with Pastor Ron Wagner, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Montandon Cemetery.

The family welcomes flowers, however, if desired, memorial contributions in Melvin's name may be made to the Montandon Baptist Church, 257 Main St., Montandon, PA 17850.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
