Michael Patrick Aviles, 54, of Lewisburg, died Monday, April 29, 2024, at Watsontown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born November 30, 1969, in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Alejandro Aviles and Kathryn (Cox) Miers. On February 27 of this year, he married his long time companion, the former Misty Smith, who survives.
Michael was a 1988 graduate of High School in Trenton, MO. He joined the United States Army and served honorably as a Sergeant at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, in the Military Police while also doing coursework at Central Texas College. Michael earned many licenses and certificates through the years both while in the service and during his professional working career. Many of those certifications included leadership training in various fields, self defense instructor training, advanced pistol training, firearms instructor training, rifle training and so much more.
He most recently worked for FCI, Loretto. In previous years, Michael worked as a training instructor for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia, at USP, FCC and FCI, Allenwood, USP, Canaan and USP, Lewisburg.
He was a member of the VFW Post 1665, Milton.
Beyond his vast experience in his professional career, Michael enjoyed traveling (mainly to a beach), gardening, fishing, and cooking. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and his five dogs.
Surviving in addition to his wife are six children, Brittany Aviles, of Dillsburg, Catie Aviles of Key West, FL, Lauren Aviles and Jordan Aviles, both of Great Falls, MT, Tyler Connolly, of Milton, and Kiara (Dan) Ward, of White Deer; four brothers, Merrill Hoyt of Urbana, IL, Stephen Aviles, of Cedarville, OH, David Aviles, of Plainfield, NJ, and Matt Aviles, of Smithville, MO; two sisters, Linda Fuller, of Louisville, KY, and Lisa Baker, of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Rick and one sister, Marlys.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
The family is being assisted by Grenoble Funeral Home & Crematory, 308 Main St. Watsontown.
