Mildred Elizabeth Young Condon Anderson, 99, of Lewisburg, died on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Oak Glen Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center (formerly Riverwoods) in Lewisburg.
Born October 24, 1925 in Corry, PA, she was one of twin daughters of the late Wallace Madison and Mildred Lucille Love Young. She graduated from Corry High School and received both her B.A. in Economics and her M.A. in French from Middlebury College. She taught at Allen High School in Asheville, North Carolina; Le Lycée Jeanne d’Arc in Rouen, France; the Foote School in New Haven, Connecticut; Bucknell University; and Saint Ansgar’s in Roodepoort, South Africa.
In 1951, she married the late Stephen Douglas Condon, professor of French at Bucknell University, who died in 1965. Their three daughters and sons-in-law survive: Marion Condon Hustis and Jonathan Hustis of Dallas, Texas; Judith Condon and Thomas Hoffman of Elkins, West Virginia; and Marcia Condon and Michael Ciraolo of Albany, California. She also leaves five grandchildren: Benjamin and Rachel Hustis, Eamon and Timothy Hoffman, and Claire Ciraolo, and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her twin sister Marion Lucille Young Fegley, her brother-in-law Ross Vaughn Fegley, and two nephews, Wallace and Charles Fegley. She is survived by a niece Lisa Fegley, and two nephews, Ross Jr. and Stephen Fegley.
Liz found wonderful fellowship in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and was active in their prayer groups and Alter Guild. In the community, Liz was a Prison Visitors Service volunteer and Lewisburg Post Office peace vigil member. Liz was known for her quiet steadfastness, warmth, and poise.
In 1976, Mrs. Condon married the late Reverend Durant Philip Anderson of Roodepoort, South Africa. For twelve years until her husband’s death, she lived in South Africa where she learned bee-keeping and assisted her husband with their bee-keeping courses. While there, she was an associate member of Saint Antony’s United Church. Two stepsons preceded her in death: John Anderson of Roodepoort, and David Anderson of Vancouver Island, British Colombia. Two stepsons and their wives survive: the Reverend Peter and Barbara Anderson of Claremont, South Africa; and Paul and Rosemary Anderson of Melbourne, Australia, as well as step daughters-in-law Joy Anderson and Jill Anderson.
The family wishes to thank the staff in Memory Care at Oak Glen (formerly Riverwoods) for the extraordinary and respectful care given to their mother.
