N. Douglas Erickson

N. Douglas Erickson, 83, of 607 Johnson Mill Rd., Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.

He was born June 23, 1931 in Ludlow, a son of the late Harry G. and Lois (Atkins) Erickson. On Sep. 17, 1955 he married the former, Janice Bower, who preceded him in death on July 2, 1988. Together they celebrated 32 years of marriage.

Doug was a 1949 graduate of Kane High School, where he was a member of the 1949 State High School Basketball Champions and a graduate of Bloomsburg State Teachers College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Education and was a member of their State Champion Basketball Team. Doug went on to earn his Masters degree from Bucknell University.

He worked as a teacher for one year at the White Deer Elementary School, before going to Milton Jr. High School, where he taught for 40 years and was assistant principle for 10 years. Doug was a veteran of the Army of Occupation, serving in Germany during the Korean War.

He was a member of Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewisburg.

A love of hunting and fishing, Doug was a founding member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen Association and a member of the Two Mile Run Rod & Gun Club, Westport. He was also a member of the Charity Lodge #144, F & AM, Lewisburg and the Susquehanna Valley Penn State Club.

He enjoyed traveling, going to Penn State games, reading and animals.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Stuart J. and Gail Erickson and Charles D. and Lisa Erickson, all of Mifflinburg; a daughter, Susan E. Hoover, of Selinsgrove; dearest and best friend, Nancy J. Walters, of Milton; brother, Claude Erickson, of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Patrika Straneva, of Warren; and four grandchildren, Erik Hoover, Olivia Erickson, Rachel and Eli Erickson.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two siblings in infancy.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m., with Pastor Pat Pittsnogle, minister of Christ Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Mazeppa Union Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Public Library for Union County, 255 Reitz Blvd., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
