Norma Jean Reed

Norma Jean Reed, 88, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Riverwoods in Lewisburg after a lengthy battle with memory loss. She died from complications due to a recent fall.

Norma Jean was born May 16, 1936 in Pottstown, to the late Newton and Cordelia (Tyson) Renninger. On June 7, 1959 she married Isaac Reed, who survives. Together they celebrated 65 years of marriage and raised 3 children who survive: Julie Reed (Richard Henderson) of Kansas City, MO, Douglas Reed (Roseline) of Lewisburg, and Carole Trainer (Thomas) of Perkasie, and 5 grandchildren.

In 1954, Norma Jean graduated from Pottstown High School then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bucknell University in 1958. Upon graduation she taught at schools in Sunbury, PA, Hartford, CT, and later retired from Willistown Country Day School in Malvern.

Norma Jean was previously an active member of Holy Cross Church, Reading, and Paoli Presbyterian Church where she formed many lifelong friendships. She enjoyed her role as Bucknell class of ‘58 contact and helped organize reunions and keep tabs on her classmates until she was no longer able. In 2000, Norma Jean and Isaac moved to Lewisburg and enjoyed 10 years collecting and selling antiques. An avid dog lover, she always had a cherished terrier at her side. Most importantly, she loved her family and taught them the importance of education in their lives.

A celebration of Norma Jean’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 20 at Marlow Hall at Riverwoods, Lewisburg. Friends will be received from 10-10:30am prior to the service. A private interment will be held in Schwenksville.

The family welcomes a tribute donation to the Public Library for Union County (unioncountylibraries.org) or STLSTR (stlouisscottierescue.com) in lieu of flowers.
