A 1948 graduate of Bucknell University, he earned a degree in finance and studied basic engineering for three semesters at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, under the Army specialized training program.

He was drafted into the Army on Feb. 25, 1943, and later transferred to the Army Air Force, where he served as a radar mechanic attached to the 62nd troop carrier squadron in England and France for 14 months. Dick was discharged as a staff sergeant on April 1, 1946.

Following graduation from Bucknell University, he was employed as an accountant at the former Westinghouse radio/television plant, Sunbury. In 1951, he became general accountant at American Home Foods, Milton and was later transferred to their Oakland, Calif., plant as manager of accounting from 1955 to 1965. He returned to the Milton plant as assistant comptroller and retired as assistant treasurer in 1984, after 33 years with the company. Prior to joining American Home Foods, he became a member of their softball team, including in 1951 when they were PA State Fast Pitch Softball Champions.

Dick was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg, where he formerly served as a Eucharist minister, scheduler of altar boys for 22 years, chairman of the annual Lenten appeal, lector and tribunal assessor. He was a charter member of the American Legion Post 841, Montandon, a member of the 62nd Troop Carrier Squadron Association and a former member of the National Association of Accountants.

Dick enjoyed working in the garden, wood working and doing house repairs.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Mary Jo Hoy and Michael and Deborah Hoy, all of Pennsylvania, and Mark and Barbara Hoy, of Maryland; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m., led by Deacon Richard Owen.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 41 S. Eighth St., Lewisburg, with his pastor, the Rev. Msgr. William Richardson, as celebrant.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Dick’s memory be made to the Albright Care Service, Benevolent Fund, 90 Maplewood Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to a charity of one’s choice.
