Richard H. Leaver, 80, of 275 Trinity Drive, Hughesville, died Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center at the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Born August 31, 1935 in Monongahela, PA, he was a son of the late Hazen Judson and Winifred (Hamilton) Leaver. On June 22, 1963 he married the former Elaine Nicholas, who survives. Together they celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Richard was a 1953 graduate of Wilson Borough High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati. Five days prior to graduating college, he was drafted into the Army, where he served honorably for two years.
Richard worked for over 40 years as a mechanical engineer at the former Sprout-Waldron, now Andritz, from where he retired. He was a member of Sprout’s Quarter Century Club and held his PA Professional Engineering license.
Richard was a member of the Muncy Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He served the church as an elder, trustee and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. Richard was also part of the building committee that added the new addition to the church.
An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a founding member of the Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited and a founding member of the East Lycoming Creek Watershed.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and son-in-law, Ashlee and Brian Hoch, of Herndon; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Linda Leaver, of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Harriet Eberhardt, of Tunkhannock; and two grandsons, Zachary Quay Renn and Bryant A. Hoch.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Nicholas H. Leaver.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Muncy Presbyterian Church, Penn and Washington streets, Muncy, with his pastor the Rev. Robert Dunkelberger, officiating.
Burial will be held privately in the Muncy Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Muncy Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 276, Muncy, PA 17756.
