Richard G. “Dick” Mabus, Sr., 92, of Lewisburg, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at his home.

He was born March 14, 1923 in Lewisburg, a son of the late Bert and Minnie (Crabb) Mabus.  On April 20, 1946 he married the former Evelyn Brouse, who survives.  Together they celebrated 69 years of marriage.

Dick attended Lewisburg High School.  After high school he enlisted in the Army, where he served in the European Theatre and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII.

He retired after 44 years as a finish sprayer at the former Pennsylvania House Furniture, Lewisburg.

Dick was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.

He was also a member of the Kratzer-Dull American Legion Post 182 and for many years, the William Cameron Engine Company, both of Lewisburg.

Dick enjoyed the outdoors including camping, hunting and fishing with his grandson.  He was an excellent bowler and participated in leagues with his son.  Dick was also an avid Phillies fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Samuel Williamson, of Turbotville; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard “Rick” Jr. and Pamela Mabus, of Winfield; two grandchildren, Rose Williamson and R. Graham Mabus, III; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Airiana, Caleb, and Sarah; numerous nieces and nephews; and his loyal beagle, Jackie.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Fred, John and William “Bill” Mabus; and two sisters, Ida Dodd and Rae Dieffenderfer.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Lewisburg Cemetery, with the Rev. John E. Lee, retired United Methodist Minister, officiating, assisted by Dick’s pastor, the Rev. Paula Gustafson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Mostly Mutts, 284 Little Mountain Rd., Sunbury, PA 17801 or the William Cameron Engine Company, 239 North Fifth Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St. Lewisburg.
