Ronnie E. "Butch" Wertz

Ronnie E. "Butch" Wertz, 71, of Allenwood, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.

He was born December 2, 1942 in Montour County, a son of the late William and Erma (Prowant) Wertz. On June 26, 1971 he married the former Sandra "Sandi" Frey, who survives. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage.

Butch was a 1961 graduate of Milton High School.  He served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1966.  Butch attended the former Williamsport Area Community College, now Penn College.  He worked at the former Philco-Ford and later retired from West Company.

He was a member of the Watsontown United Methodist Church.

Butch was a life member of the Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion Post 323, Watsontown.  His greatest achievements included being part of the Mercury Space Project and attending the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in 1964.  He enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and spending time with his high school class at reunions and other social gatherings.  Above all he loved spending time with his family and cherished his two grandsons.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter and son-in-law, Rondelle and Shane Webb, of San Antonio, TX; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Madeline "Nance" Witmer and Virginia "Gin" Hauck, both of Watsontown, Yvonne "Von" and Charles "Chuck" Burrows, of New Columbia, and Lois "Dove" Kilcoyne, of Hughesville; two grandsons, Ethan and Blake Webb; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother in infancy; one sister, Shirl Mae Mitch; three brothers-in-law, Eugene "Gene" Witmer, Sr., William "Bill" Kilcoyne and Richard "Rich" Hauck; and one niece, Terry Printzenhoff.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown where the funeral will be held at 7 p.m. with his minister, Pastor Ryan Krauss, officiating.

Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the Evangelical Hospital Pulmonary Rehab Department at Evangelical Hospital, Attn: Pulmonary Rehab, One Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
