Russell C. Royer, 85, of 73 S. Hill Rd., New Columbia, died Monday, April 28, 2014 at his home.

He was born January 7, 1929 in Lewisburg, a son of the late John Issac and Edith D. (Bell) Royer. On July 28, 1950 he married the former E. Louise DeWako, who survives. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Russell was a 1946 graduate of Lewisburg High School.  In the summer following graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines and boarded a ship to Poland to help revitalize the livestock that was devastated after World War II.

He started his working career at Philco-Ford where he was a spray finisher.  He later retired in May of 1991 as a train engineer from the former Conrail, which was the successor to the former Pennsylvania Railroad and Penn Central Transport Company.

He was a former member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.

Russell was a loving husband and father.  He enjoyed travelling the United States, doing yard work, bird watching and admiring the views from his home.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Mary Royer, of New York, one daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Kenneth Yost, of Milton; four grandchildren, Kelley Carr, Lucas Yost, Seth Yost and Michael MacKnight; and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Yost, Colin Carr and Ashley Carr.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter, Dr. Teresa Royer MacKnight; one grandson, Jason Royer; one great-grandson, Cole Yost; three brothers, Torrence, Bruce and Wilbur Royer; and two sisters, Florence Treon and in infancy, Bonnie Royer.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Lewisburg Cemetery.
