Selin R. "Sid" Bowersox

Selin R. “Sid” Bowersox, 94, of Lewisburg, died Friday, June 5, 2020 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born December 14, 1925 in Sunbury, the son of the late John and Elva (Beaver) Bowersox. On July 17, 1944, he married the former Jean Derr, who preceded him in death December 21, 2016. Together they celebrated 72 years of marriage.

Sid was a member of the 1943 class of Lewisburg High School leaving school to join the military prior to graduation.  He served in the United States Army during WWII. Sid owned and operated the Sunoco Service Station on Route 15 for many years. He also owned and maintained several rental properties in the Lewisburg and Williamsport area in addition to working as a realtor.

He was a lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where he served on the consistory and volunteered with various committees throughout the years.

Sid was a member of the Lewisburg Masonic Lodge #144, the Shriners Club of Sunbury and the Irem Temple of Wilkes-Barre.

He was a skilled carpenter, who loved helping his children with their projects in their own homes.

Sid enjoyed getting coffee with many local business owners in the Lewisburg area once a month at Country Cupboard.

Surviving are two daughters, Paula Sassaman and her husband, Larry, and Deborah Rice, all of Lewisburg; two sisters, Linda Miller and her husband, Kenneth, of Lewisburg and Ruth Clark, of Stone Mountain, GA; eight grandchildren, Chris Sassaman and his wife, Misty, Shawn Sassaman and his wife, Jennifer, Johanna Geyer and her husband, Jesse, Amy Zimmerman and her husband, Bryan, Lee Rice and his companion, Robin Cruey, Kevin Rice and his fiancé, Danielle Boop, Joshua Bowersox, and his wife, Courtney and Abbey Bowersox and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one son, John Bowersox; one grandson, Eric Sassaman and one sister, Helen Fisher.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Lewisburg Cemetery with Rev. Alice Rauch, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s United Church of Christ 1050 Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St., Lewisburg.
