Susann M. Peters

May 9, 1944 — November 12, 2023

Selinsgrove

Susann M. Peters, 79, of Selinsgrove went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 12, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after courageously battling leukemia with the same fierce determination, strength, and resiliency that she had modeled and instilled in the countless lives she had impacted over her lifetime.

Sue was born in Lewisburg on May 9, 1944, to the late Archie M. Peters and Marie (Humphrey) Schrader, and is survived by two sisters, Donna Y. Bly (Clair Troutman) and Karen D. Hoffer (Larry McConnel) both of Lewisburg. In addition to being a loving, protective, and supportive sister, she was affectionally known as “Aunt Susie” to a niece whom she adored like a daughter, Billiejo Monday and her husband Scott, along with their two children, Olivia Dunlap (Nic) and Jace Monday all of Mechanicsburg as well as three nephews and their families, Daryl Bly (Heather) of Milton and his two sons, Tyson and Ezra Bly, Shawn Hoffer (Crystal) of Montandon and his children, Jaida, Talen, and Pierce Hoffer, and Shawn McConnel (Dee) of Berwick.

Along with her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother Glen M. Peters, brother-in-law William E. Bly, and beloved fiancé, Daniel “Danny” Heiser.

Sue was a 1962 graduate of Lewisburg Area High School and went on to pursue her education at Lock Haven University (BS) and Ithaca College (MA) to become a Physical Education & Health teacher. She began her first year of teaching and officiating in Towanda, but her true passion, dedication, and commitment belonged to Bloomsburg Area High School for 39 years prior to her retirement in 2006 though she continued to manage athletic events every year since. Sue was Panther Proud through and through and dedicated her life to teaching and mentoring. She was extremely passionate about the Girl’s Athletic Program at BHS where she coached JV/Varsity basketball, softball, and field hockey leading many teams to League/Conference Championships. As if that were not enough to keep her busy, Sue thoroughly enjoyed advising the Student Government Association and her unprecedented Homecoming decorations and celebrations will long be remembered within the BHS community.

Sue’s attention to detail, contagious enthusiasm, and smile that could light up a room will never be forgotten. Her matching (rarely seen twice) athletic outfits and sneakers, beautiful jewelry collection, and love of cars, especially her iconic yellow VW Beetle with daisy wheels, will fondly be remembered by all who knew her. The legacy of Miss “Coach” Peters will continue to echo through the halls, gymnasium courts, and athletic fields of BHS, while her loving spirit will live on at Gate 3 of the Bloomsburg Fair where she enjoyed serving for decades as well as in the hearts of her family, friends, students, and players forever.

In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting donations be made to the Susann M. Peters Memorial Fund. All memorial contributions in Sue’s name may be made to the Community Giving Foundation (memo: Sue Peters) 725 West Front Street, Berwick, PA 18603 or online at www.csgiving.org (search Peters).
