Retired Command Sergeant Major and Veteran of Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm, Thomas “Tom” M.  Donohue, Sr., 72, of Muncy, died Thursday, December 21, 2023 at his home.

Born July 2, 1951 in Munich, Germany, while his father was serving in the US Army,  he was the son of the late James J. and Teresa L. (Baker) Donohue.   On July 19, 2021, he married the former Gretchen A. Hayes.

Following graduation from high school in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Tom enlisted in the United States Army in 1969. His entire life was dedicated to serving this country. Tom served with the 148th Smoke Generating Company as squad leader prior to starting his civilian service in April 1973 as an Admin Supply Tech in Kearney, NJ with the 303rd Civil Affairs Group before serving as Section Chief. His service continued with the 484th Service Company (C&C) in Lewistown as a Platoon Sergeant and Unit Administrative/Facility Manager. Tom also served with the 2090th  USAR School as a NCOES Instructor and in 1987 joined the 327th Corp Support Battalion in Williamsport as a first Sergeant and served as a Command Sergeant Major for the 327th Quartermaster Battalion (Water) Bn. He carried on his service as a Group CSM for 475th Quartermaster Group (Petrl), 301st Regional Support Group and the 316th Expedition Sustainment Command. Tom retired in 2011 as a Staff Operation and Training Specialist out of the 327th Corps Support Battalion, Williamsport, after 38 years. During that time he was a graduate of Sergeant Major Academy.

Among the many decorations over his 42 years of service, Tom received three meritorious service medals; the Army Commendation Medal; Presidential Unit Citation, for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy; and in September 2002, he was awarded the Distinguished Order of Saint Martin, awarded for having made significant contributions to the Quartermaster Corps, which recognizes those elite few whose careers have embodied the spirit, dignity and sense of sacrifice and commitment epitomized by Saint Martin. He was also the recipient of the Legion of Merit Award, which is the seventh in the order of precedence of all U.S. military awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements; and the Bronze Star, for Heroic or meritorious achievement or service in a war zone.

Surviving in addition to his wife of two years are a daughter, Charlene Donohue, of Glendale, AZ; a son, Thomas Donohue, Jr., of Washington D.C.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Francis Donohue, of Washington D.C., Patrick and Chris Donohue, of Venice, FL, Robert and Sheri Donohue, of Clayton, NC; a sister, Mary Schuette, of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; a sister-in-law, Tina Donohue, of Fla.; and three grandchildren, Daniel Horn, of Colorado Springs, CO, Matthew Horn, of Glendale, AZ and Elizabeth Horn, of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ronald James Donohue.

Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. with his pastor, Father Sean Carpenter, officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions in Thomas’s name be made to the Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, Muncy, PA 17756.

The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
