Thomas G. Rishel, Sr., 81, of Muncy, died Friday, August 2, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born August 1, 1943 in Lewisburg, he was a son of the late Burrows E. and Eva L. (Kreppenneck) Rishel. On June 29, 1960 he married the former Penny Schneider, who survives. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Tom attended Watsontown Elementary School until the age of 13. He then moved and attended Montgomery area schools. Tom worked at Habig Veneer in Montgomery, early in life, before taking employment with the former Sprout-Waldron, now Andritz, where he worked as a mechanic for 20 years. Tom retired from American Home Foods, Milton after 20 years, where he also worked as a mechanic. In 2004, Tom opened Rishel Window Shop in Muncy, operating the business for 10 years with his sons, Tommy and John. He owned several rental properties in Muncy and did all his own maintenance, plumbing and heating repairs on those units. A Mr. Fix It, Tom enjoyed helping his friends with repairs and troubleshooting with them. He was fond of joking around with his good friends, Frank and Denny.
He most recently attended Muncy Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Lori L. Patrola, of Kingston, Thomas G. Rishel, Jr., of Muncy, Jeffrey V. and Stephanie Rishel, of Muncy, and Jonathan M. and Tara Rishel, of Montgomery; one sister, Isabel “Billie” and Carlos “Skip” Attinger, of Turbotville; five grandchildren, Dalton J. Rishel, Teal P. Rishel, Chase T. Rishel, Brooke T. Rishel and Conner J. Rishel; three great-grandchildren, Elias, Ana Isa and Camila; seven nieces and nephews, Mike (Chris) Yost, James and Jason Mingle, Christy, Dan and David Attinger and Shelly (Mike) Phirman; seven great-nieces and nephews, Vicki, Allie, Amber, Mike, Jade, Tiffany and Rishell; and a great-great-niece and nephew, Sofie and Brady.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bob Patrola; a brother, Richard S. Kreppenneck; two sisters, Peggy Ritchie and Mary “Toot” Mingle; and a nephew, Kenneth Young.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the Clinton Baptist Church, 60 Warren St., Montgomery. Join the family in the sharing of photos, stories and refreshments.
