Violet Dorothy (Boob) Dietrich, 99, of Lewisburg, died Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Heritage Springs Memory Care Center, Lewisburg.
Violet was born July 25, 1916 in Northumberland, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Boob. She was the youngest of 12 children, six of whom did not live into adulthood.
Violet attended a one room school near Vicksburg and graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1933. She married Frank Dietrich in 1935, who predeceased her in 2012 at the age of 100. Her life was spent caring for her husband and subsequent family. One could not call her “only a homemaker/housewife.” She was a seamstress, making clothes not only for her own family but also for her daughter’s square dancing friends and for the 1959 Lewisburg High School May Court senior girls. She was a chauffeur – driving children and friends to whatever events in which they were participating. She was a baker and candy maker – her sticky bun recipe is carried forward by her son, Harry and her Easter eggs are sorely missed by family. Her pot pie is a feature at summer family get-togethers – re-created by her son, Frank and her grandson, Ted. She was a supporter of all her children’s events, whether musical or sports.
Violet was a volunteer for 4-H while her children were participating. She supported the American Red Cross and taught Sunday school at Faith Lutheran Church. She was a member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, then Faith Lutheran Church and finally the First Baptist Church in Lewisburg. She enjoyed traveling – especially with the Ramblers Club.
Violet is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Morris, of Lewisburg; two sons, Harry Dietrich and wife, Carol, of Warrenton, VA and Frank Dietrich II, of Highland Heights, KY; six grandchildren, Laurisa Morris, of Sunbury who has been a major support system for her during the past several years, Ted Morris and wife, Brijida, of Half Moon Bay, CA, Trisha Forrester and husband, David, of Independence, KY, Kimberly Westrich and husband, Rick, of Oak Hill, VA, Josh Dietrich and wife, Gini, of Ashburn, VA and Pamela Threlkeld and husband, Brian, of Cumming, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Annalise and Austin Morris, Sam and Meera Dietrich, Katey and Allison Threlkrold and Freddy Westrich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet will be interred in the Lewisburg Cemetery at the family’s convenience.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, 51 S. Third St., with the Rev. MacKenzie Scott, officiating.
