Virginia Mae “Ginny” Lucas, 85, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 10, 1939 in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Michael E. and Gertrude J. (Smith) Pope. On November 28, 1964 she married Dennis E. “Denny” Lucas, who survives.  Together they celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage.

Ginny was a 1957 graduate of Sunbury High School.  She completed cosmetology school in Miami, Florida and began her career as a beautician. Ginny managed Murray’s Hair Design in Miami for three years before moving to a salon in Fort Lauderdale for three more years in Florida. She moved back to Lewisburg in 1964 and started working at The Swirl Shop downtown and at their most recent location located in Brook Park. Gary Cronrath often called on Ginny for her hair dressing skills at the Cronrath Funeral Home. She often met clients at their homes and in nursing homes when they couldn’t make to the shop. She finally hung up her scissors and retired in 2004 after nearly 50 years. She served as assistant tax collector for East Buffalo Township for two terms (8 years) in the 1980’s.

She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg. Ginny was a member of the Lewisburg Chapter #394 Order of the Eastern Star and the Lewisburg Junior Civic Club.

She had a love for all sports, especially golf and was a member of the Bucknell Golf course for over 40 years.  Ginny was a season ticket holder for Bucknell Basketball and was a Bison Club member for over 50 years. She also enjoyed bowling with her husband and girlfriends at the Mifflinburg Lanes.

Ginny was a very social person, playing pinochle every month with a group of friends for over 50 years, bridge three times a week with other friends and having lunch every Tuesday with her luncheon group. She also enjoyed going to Ocean City with her friends. She was Matron of Honor for two girlfriends while in Florida. Ginny went on many trips with friends to casinos for playing penny, nickel and quarter slot machines.

She loved to play Uno, Sequence and Michigan Rummy at family gatherings and usually won. Ginny was an avid collector of bird houses.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis, Jr. and Deborah Lucas, of Lewisburg; half brother and sister-in-law, Mike, Jr. and Jill Pope, of Sunbury; half sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Eddie Reiche, of Palm Coast, FL; step grandson, Ryan and Riley Hoy, of Milton and two step great-grandsons, Kaydon and Jaxon Hoy.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Galen and Marty and a half sister, Janice.

Friends will be received from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral service will be held at 2:30 with the Rev. Katy Moran, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
