Walter L. Sones, 91, of 517 Kepner Hill Rd., Muncy, died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Manor Care North, Williamsport.
Born August 3, 1924 in Clarkstown, he was a son of the late Charles and Grace (Smith) Sones. On April 14, 1945 he married the former Sadie E. Chamberlain, who survives. Together they celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Walter attended Muncy schools. He served honorably in the U. S. Army during World War II. Walter worked as a supervisor at the former Lycoming Silica Sand, now Hanson, Hughesville for 42 years.
He was a 35 year member of the Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion, Muncy. An avid motorcycle rider, Walter also belonged to the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed driving around, hunting, fishing and watching western TV shows.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce L. and Kay Sones, of Muncy and Roger W. and Bonnie Sones, of Huntersville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gloria Mingle, of Turbotville and Kathryn and Lloyd Hubbert, of Pennsdale; brother, Bruce Sones, of Muncy; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Arnold Smith, of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald Sones and Frank and Bonnie Sones.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
