Wayne T. Houseknecht, 77, of Clarkstown, died Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family and beloved cat, Simon.
Born April 19, 1947 in Muncy he was a son of the late Albert B. and Florence I. (Whitmoyer) Houseknecht. On Sep. 3, 1994, he married the former Debra J. Bonawitz, who survives. Together they celebrated nearly 30 years of marriage.
Wayne was a 1965 graduate of Hughesville “Hogburg” High School, where he played and lettered in football. Early in life he worked at Baxter Plumbing and Heating, Hughesville before working in maintenance at Muncy Homes. Wayne operated his own business, Houseknecht Maintenance Service, for over 35 years and was a lifelong farmer, raising cattle and pigs, as well as corn, soy beans and hay. Wayne enjoyed butchering and was a legendary pig roaster, helping with many local business and club events. He loved hunting and was the sole proprietor of Wayne’s deer cutting business. As with an avid outdoorsman, Wayne was also fond of fishing and taking family trips to Canada. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and displayed his cooking talent at their annual mother/daughter breakfasts. In his younger years, he was an avid roller skater and bowler, winning numerous trophies.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter and her companion, Cherish F. Houseknecht and Cliff Getgen, of Muncy; step son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jill Yocum, of Hughesville; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Beverly J. Houseknecht and Doris L. and George Frantz, all of Hughesville; and two grandsons, Tyler and Colton Yocum.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia (Raemsch) Houseknecht.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2024 in the Muncy Cemetery, 204 E. Penn St., Muncy, with Rev. Robert Lauver, officiating.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Wayne’s name be made to Susquehanna Health Foundation, c/o Home Care and Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
