William C. “Bill” Pflaum, 79, of Lewisburg died Thursday, March 4, 2021.
Born August 11, 1941 in Dayton, OH, he was a son of the late Robert and Mabel (Becker) Pflaum. On Apr. 23, 1988, he married Cynthia “Cyn” Day, joining their families together they celebrated 32 years of loving marriage.
Bill was a graduate of Upper Arlington High School, OH. In 1964 he received a bachelor’s degree in English from Ohio State University. Bill was a Lt. Colonel in the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He established the William C. Pflaum Company in Virginia until he retired in 2000. Bill and Cyn then opened an Inn in Jackson, Tennessee.
During his tour in Vietnam, he took on a special assignment and authored two books for the Army: Vietnam, A Pictorial History, Vol. 1 and 2. Bill was also heavily involved in supporting his local communities; of note in Reston VA, he served as President of the Rotary Club, helped establish the Reston Board of Commerce and was President of GRACE, an organization for the arts. Bill’s strong passion of literature, poetry and jazz energized the world around him.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Erin Nikitchyuk and her husband, Andrei, of Sandy Hook, CT, Eric Pflaum, of Newburyport, Mass, Nicole Herron, of Leesburg, VA, Pamela Herron, of Brooklyn, NY and Courtney Schweiger, and her husband, Dan, of Sea Cliff, NY; a nephew, Andy Pflaum, and his wife, Lori, of Columbus, OH; and his adored nine grandchildren, Eli, Tallie, Bear, Will, Lily, Jonathan, Joshua, Sam and Charley.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life in the near future.
