William Albert “Bill” Walter, 78, of New Columbia, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove after a lengthy illness.
He was born April 8, 1936 in Sunbury, the son of the late Albert and Virginia (Reed) Walter. On February 4, 1956 he married the former Evelyn Feaster, who survives. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Bill was a 1954 graduate of Milton High School and later earned his Associate’s degree from Penn State University. He joined the Marine Corp. Reserves for a short time before joining the Air Force where he worked until his retirement in 1974. Following retirement from the Air Force, Bill worked at Alaska Sales and Service, a large auto dealership in Anchorage, Alaska. Bill and Evelyn later moved to Rogers, Arkansas where they lived until 2004 when they moved to New Columbia.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an excellent marksman.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Michael and Lisa Walter, both of Alaska; one brother-in-law, Charles Feaster and wife Lois, of Alaska; two cousins, Peggy Walter, of Sunbury and Fred Dreese and wife Linda, of New Columbia; and one grandson, Samuel Thomas Widner.
A memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
The family is being assisted by Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 106 S. Second St. Lewisburg.
